The main element of the Live Your Mission Consulting logo is a gold moon. Both the color and symbol of the moon itself are significant.
The color of the moon is a vibrant gold drawn from a halo used in an icon. In iconography, the color of gold in halos around saints often symbolizes their experience of the “uncreated light of God.” This is an intentionally distinct and more radiant color than the natural light from the sun. Some point to Scriptural examples of this literal light of God like Jesus’ Transfiguration on Mt. Tabor or the light before Moses in the Burning Bush.
It might feel a bit bold to allude to the mystical experience of the uncreated light of God in a logo. But faith-based and mission driven-leaders are often drawn to this work in a response to a call from God. It’s vocational. That call can certainly dim with the passage of time, stress, busyness, or even mundaneness of daily leadership tasks. Yet it’s still inside somewhere. The deep gold color in the Live Your Mission logo represents a subtle reminder to leaders to connect with the inner part of themselves that is in touch with, listens to, and responds to the light of God. And even if leaders may not see the light of God in themselves all the time – the reality is that those who they lead and the people they serve see it – or hope for it– in them.
In iconography the symbol of the moon itself is also often associated with Mary, who also reflects God’s light. In the Live Your Mission logo, rays of light come out from the moon. A moon also more generally represents a guide that is always there – even in the darkness. Non-profits, ministries, and faith based organizations more broadly are created to serve a mission. This mission is like the moon to the organization– guiding its leaders, staff, and board. A mission is also the way an organization reflects God’s light in the world today to a particular group of people in a unique way.
